RCRM Speakers Series

RCRM Speakers Series is a public program launched by The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum in 2020. This program features Canadian history, anniversaries of events that changed the face of the world, their impact on our local community, and the participation of The Royal Canadian Regiment in various operations since 1883 to present days.

For the RCRM Speakers Series Season 1, two anniversaries were in focus for the inaugural year: 120 years since the Battle of Paardeberg (18-27 February 1900), during the South African War and the 75th anniversary from the end of the Second World War (1945). Each talk was converted in a podcast episode available on the museum website.

In 2021, the RCRM Speakers Series Season 2 explored various aspects of loss in the context of military conflict. When this topic attracts scholarly attention, the unthinkable is often revealed. Complex facets of the dynamic between mourning and commemoration, depravation and rejection or disposal of war by-products surface. All of it leaves undeniable traces on the communities found in the path of the clash. Scholars for whom Loss was a central topic of their research were invited to share their findings. Designed as an on-line premiere on the museum You Tube channel, each talk has been converted into a podcast episode available on the museum website.

The RCRM Speakers Series Season 3 brought together several panellists who discussed a variety of topics related to The Royal Canadian Regiment in the post Second World War. Most of these panellists were directly involved in training or operations at home or across the globe, some of them as part of Canada’s commitments to NATO. Each of the 3 episodes of the series are now available on our website and other podcasting platforms.

Recorded during The RCR’s 140th anniversary year, the three episodes of season 4 highlight the Regiment in international and national military operations spanning from 1964 to 1995. An excellent opportunity to hear about how 1RCR trained for arctic conditions as part of ACE Mobile Force, or find out how “N” Company, 3RCR and “G” Company 2RCR answered to international commitments in Former Yugoslavia. We will also discuss the response to the call from civil powers in Ontario and Quebec, spring-summer 1990.
